This study was prepared by a very dear friend, Harry Wellington, who has incorporated his bible ministry, on various Bible topics, by allowing the Scriptures to determine context and theme.
“ALL 150 PSALMS ARE MESSIANIC— NOT DAVIDIC”
While some agree,that certain chapters in Psalms,are (obviously) Messianic.e.g.Psalms,Chapter 22. It is a scriptural fact. THAT ALL 150 PSALMS,ARE TOTALLY MESSIANIC,and are not David’s words,concerning David’s “verbalized thoughts,and actions”,but are David’s “Holy Spirit Delivered Words of God,The Son, speaking to God The Father”,concerning His future life,death,and resurrection events,surrounding Calvary. See 2 Sam 23:1-3, Mark 12:35-37, Acts 1:16, Luke 24:44.
The Hebrew title,for The Book of Psalms,is Tehillim,i.e. Praise. And is God,The Son, appealing to,and praising God,The Father. And not David doing so. As commonly so suggested.
The Chapters in Psalms,setting forth “THE TRANSGRESSIONS AND SINS,AND INIQUITIES”,OF THE SPEAKER,e.g.Ps 51:1-9. Are ascribed to David. While in reality,they are describing,that which occured at Calvary,which is not fully comprehended ,by the finite mind of man.i.e.,”WHEN HE THAT KNEW NO SIN. (BECAME SIN FOR US” 2 Cor 5:21. And when God,”MADE HIM TO BE,(A CURSE FOR US)”,Phil 2:8, Rom15:3,1 Pet 2:24.
In one brief moment,at Calvary. Every evil,filthy thought,word,and deed,of ALL human beings,of ALL times. And the loathsome diseases resulting from them,were “heaped upon”,The Perfect Body,of The Perfectly Sinless Christ Jesus! In one brief moment. He (actually),”BECAME”,ALL OF THE ABOVE! Something,that the finite mind of man,cannot fully grasp,nor cannot fully appreciate,as stated earlier! An (actual occurence),that was so infinitely horrible in sight. That God,The Father had to “momentarily look away from” God,The Son. Which caused God,The Son to cry out,at Matt 27:46, Mark 15:34. “MY GOD. MY GOD. WHY HAST THOU FORSAKEN ME”?
But here it should be noted,that one moment later,when the momentary sacrifice of Christ Jesus was “finished”. That God,The Father,once again “turned to” God,The Son. As He cried out,in Luke 23:46 “FATHER,INTO THY HANDS,I COMMEND SPIRIT–“.
In the foregoing brief moment,in time,and place. God,The Son,cried out,as in Ps 51:9-12.”HIDE THY FACE FROM MY SINS,(i.e.our sins,Isa Ch 53). AND BLOT OUT ALL MINE INIQUITIES,(i.e.our iniquities,Isa Ch 53). CREATE IN ME A CLEAN HEART,O GOD,i.e. Whose Divine,Sinless Heart,had absorbed ALL the filth,and sin,of ALL men,of ALL times.”PURGE ME WITH HYSSOP,AND I SHALL (once again) BE CLEAN. WASH ME. AND I SHALL (once again) BE WHITER THAN SNOW. CAST ME NOT AWAY FROM THY PRESENCE,(i.e.as God,The Father had “momentarily so done,as above”. AND TAKE NOT
THY HOLY SPIRIT FROM ME (i.e.as God,The Father had “momentarily so done,above). RESTORE UNTO ME,(THE JOY),OF THY SALVATION.(i.e.of being God’s Salvation,as He was before,e.g.Ps 53:6, 54:1, 54:7, 55:3). Why so? THEN WILL I (once again) TEACH TRANSGRESSORS THY WAYS. AND SINNERS, SHALL BE (once again),CONVERTED UNTO THEE”.
No. Ps Ch 51,is not speaking of “a backslidden David”,having lost his salvation,and needing to be re-saved. It is referring to Christ Jesus,of Whom it is said in Ex 15:2,”HE,IS BECOME MY (God restored) SALVATION”.
In Psalms 51,Christ Jesus,is not asking “to be saved from” (His own) sins. But “from those inflicted upon Him”,because of others sins. He is asking,to be saved i.e.”delivered out of”,that which He knowingly,and willingly,descended into.i.e.Sheol,or The Grave. Ps Ch 69, WHERE “THE FLOOD WATERS OF GOD’S WRATH”,COMPLETELY SUBMERGED CHRIST JESUS,IN WHAT THE SCRIPTURES CALL,HIS “DEATH BAPTISM” AT CALVARY,OF ROM 6:3-10.
Thus,when reading each and every one of the 150 chapters of Psalms. Simply let The Words,be those of Christ Jesus,as simply recorded by David. Under the verbal inspiration of The Holy Spirit,e.g.2 Pet 1:20,21.
